Nestled at the base of the San Francisco Peninsula in between the foothills and the bay are some of the most desirable places in the world to live: Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Menlo Park, Palo Alto and surrounding communities.  While each town enjoys the same mild Mediterranean climate and close proximity to the urban centers of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, each town is different.  Some differences are subtle, but other attributes are distinct and worth investigating before you start your search.  For instance, most of the homes in Los Altos were built during the post war boom when acres of apricot orchards were cut down to build subdivisions of Ranch Style homes.  Next door in Palo Alto, you can find blocks of heritage Victorian homes that were built in the late 1800s and you can also find many Eichler Mid-Century Modern homes.  In Los Altos Hills, zoning requires that each lot be at least 1 acre, so there are large parcels and miles of horse trails.  The Peninsula has something for everyone.

If you are considering moving to the San Francisco Peninsula, we encourage you to scan the community pages on this site.  You will find our personal perspective and information about the schools in the area.
